Peak shaving is a measure to adjust electricity load. According to the electricity consumption rules of different users, arrange and organize the electricity consumption time of various users in a reasonable and planned manner to reduce load peaks, fill load valleys, reduce grid load peak-valley differences, and balance power generation and electricity consumption.

Energy storage system (ESS) is a battery system to store electricity in low-valley period, and generate power in peak hours, and helps cut the head and tail off the duck curve.

Enhance Grid Reliability

The power generation capacity of a power plant is usually fixed and does not change easily, but the peak of electricity consumption is usually during the day, causing insufficient electricity during peak hours. The system shifts part of the peak load to the trough period at night, thereby using the excess power at night, and achieving the goal of energy saving. Therefor peak shaving is to reduce the peak load of the grid, smooth the load curve, and reduce the generating investment and stabilize grid operation.

Promote Consumption of Renewable Energy

The frequent start and stop of large-scale thermal power units result in waste of resources and uneconomic. The participation of energy storage in power peaking service can enhance the regulation capacity of the grid and promote the consumption of renewable energy.
